How much is the Aulani Character Breakfast? That’s normally the first thing we think of when planning any kind of excursion, activity, or meal. What is the cost? Aulani character breakfast is pretty comparable in pricing to really any other Disney character breakfast you would find here at Walt Disney World stateside, like Topolino’s Terrace.
As in usual fashion, for larger groups, part of the gratuity is automatically included in the bill, so be sure to take that into account when you are adding on any additional gratuity to your bill. For me personally, having been to many Disney character breakfasts (and lunches and dinners) over the years to be very reasonable. As the saying goes, “You get what you pay for.” And that is true for the Aulani Character Breakfast as well. You get great food, great service, and a magical experience.
Aulani Character Breakfast Hours
- Open Daily
- Breakfast: 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM
The Makahiki Restaurant which hosts the Aulani Character Breakfast is open daily. No holiday closures, since many people come to Disney just to celebrate the holidays. If you’re reservation is late and close the the end of breakfast, don’t worry, you aren’t going to get kicked out. You’ll have plenty of time to enjoy your meal and the characters. After breakfast the Makahiki restaurant closes in order to prepare for dinnertime when the restaurant will open back up again. Unfortunately, the Disney characters are only present during breakfast and not at dinner. Although dinner at the Makahiki Restaurant is also equally as delicious.

- Yes and No.
During major holidays like Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, Disney’s Aulani Resort will keep reservations limited to resort guests only. All other times of the year, you can make reservations for the Aulani character breakfast even if you aren’t staying at the resort.
Although if you are planning a Hawaiian adventure, I would highly recommend staying here if you can. It was an amazing experience with top not customer service, and tons of stuff to do.

- Dining reservations can be booked up to 30 days in advance.
Can you eat at the Aulani Character Breakfast without a reservation?
- Yes and No.
Here I’ve included the general answers, but now I’m gonna give you the scoop on these answers after many years of eating at many different Disney restaurants (like the lesser known Olivia’s Cafe). While you could technically walk-in to many of the different Disney restaurants, the truth is you could get turned away or you could be waiting for a long long long time. And let’s face it if you have hungry kids, the last thing you want to be doing is waiting a really long time to eat. Or have their hopes up of seeing their favorite characters, only to be turned away because the reservation list is full.
Please make dining reservations in advance!
Now on the flip side to that, you may have tried to get a reservation 30 days in advance and were not able to snag one. If that’s the case, here are some things to try, which are a little cumbersome unfortunately, but it’s par for the course of Disney dining reservations.
First, keep checking everyday for dining reservations leading up to your trip. There are always cancellations as the time gets close especially since many of these restaurants require a deposit to avoid unnecessary overbooking and cancellations. Secondly, if that doesn’t work, then once you are there at the hotel, try talking to the host/hostess to be added as a walk in as soon as the restaurant opens. I know this is super early when you’re on vacation, but you are more likely to be accommodated early in the morning or they may find availability that day when there are less people being added to the walk-in list too.
What Characters are at the Aulani Character Breakfast?
If you look on the website, you will see the only one listed is Mickey Mouse. After that, it says “and friends.” It means it can have all or some of the following characters: Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and Pluto. If you are staying at Aulani Resort what other characters might you see throughout the property. I always think of it as this, every place in Disney is going to have location appropriate characters. So, what Disney characters would we find in Hawaii? Moana, and Lilo and Stitch.
Gluten Free and Dairy Free Disney Dining
Tell me you’re a Disney adult without telling me you’re a Disney adult. I’ll go first. I went to Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii for my honeymoon. I’m definitely a Disney adult, since I grew up as a Disney kid. Now with all the travel that I’ve done, why would I pick a Disney resort for my honeymoon? Well, I developed a gluten sensitivity and intolerance during my wedding preparations. So, now here I am with a new diagnosis, only slightly sure of what I can and cannot eat. How do I respond? Go to Disney.
One thing that I’ve always been sure of is that I’ve always had good experiences when it comes to diet at Disney. They are extremely sensitive to those with food allergies. Did I still try to take gluten free bread, peanut butter, and jelly on the plane? Yes, I did. Unfortunately, it didn’t all make it through security. But I picked Aulani, because one thing I knew is that I’d be safe with eating there. And I was. I never had any GI issues during my stay there, I’m happy to report.
How do you navigate food allergies at the Aulani Character Breakfast?
Always let the restaurant know there is a food allergy ahead of time. You can do this by either noting it during the reservation process, or advising the host or hostess upon check in. In that ways, the wait staff can be aware. Once you are seated, you can always request the chef to come out. They can review which items are safe on the menu and which ones are not. It’s also helpful, because they can review any items that you are scoping out and try to make them allergy friendly if possible. You don’t have to request the chef if you don’t want to, but it’s always an option. An option I’m always very grateful for.
Aulani Character Breakfast Menu
Here is the menu link currently noted on their website. It is not a buffet style restaurant. It’s menu based and a la carte. But since you are playing one flat fee, everything is included. You can order as many or as few entrees from the menu as you want. The only things that are typically not included in the flat rate are alcoholic beverages and some specialty drinks.
Special Occasions
If you are there celebrating a special occasion, let them know. Either let the host or hostess know when you are checking in or let your waiter or waitress know, they will always try to make the magic when they can. We received pins that said We are married and wore them to the Aulani character breakfast and they brought us out this complimentary special treat.
Aulani Character Breakfast Review
The best review of any place is when asked the question, “would you go there again?” My answer, absolutely. Disney’s Aulani Resort was an absolutely beautiful place. The customer service was over the top, top notch. I got sunburned on my first day and the concierge literally drove us in his personal car to the local Walmart in the middle of the night, so I could get aloe and Benadryl, because the store on property was closed. I mean, no other hotels are doing that for sure. The Aulani Character Breakfast was a lot fun with delicious food and great Hawaiian music and ambiance. Nothing to really complain about. Disney really always tries to make a magical experience for everyone.
